The Cove. Taiji, Japan. One of the most gorgeous landscapes your eyes will behold...until you witness the waters run red with cetacean blood and your ears are filled with the piercing whistle of dolphin cries. Every year, from September to March, thousands of cetaceans are driven into the Cove, a natural finger of water along the coast in Taiji. Some are taken into captivity, being sold to dolphinariums around the world, the rest are slaughtered for human consumption. The photos below depict a small portion of the time I spent living in Japan, documenting the drive hunts.
